Dear Colleagues,

We would like to announce the next conference in Glass Science in Art and Conservation, GLASSAC-08 on March 5-7, 2008. It will take place at the Valencia University Historic Building on the Valencia city center. The poster session and a glass exhibition will take place at the Cloister of the Historic Building.

Following the successful conferences organised in Portugal in 1999, "Glass, Art and Science" and 2005, “Glass Science in Art and Conservation” by the Portuguese Glass Association, the participants agreed that there was a need for the international glass community to share knowledge and insight across the barriers which all too easily separate glass science and technology from art, conservation and design.

Therefore, the group of Materials Science applied on Cultural Heritage from the Materials Science Institute of Valencia University takes the opportunity to continue this fructiferous and interesting event and now, we are organizing the second “Glass Science in Art and Conservation” congress in Valencia (Spain).

As in previous conferences, we will examine significant developments in the science of glass that can show the art and conservation communities about innovative possibilities, and on the other hand, to provide an opportunity to discuss practical problems and the ethical dilemmas of intervention facing conservators. The aim of this event is to create a focus on the applications of glass science in art and conservation. In order to achieve this are very pleased to invite you to participate on the GLASSAC-08 congress.

Typical topics of the upcoming GLASSAC-08 will include:
Bronze Age glass • Hellenistic glass • Islamic glass • Roman glass • Mould-blown glass • Glass decoration and enamel • Medieval stained glass window • Façon-de-Venise glass • Glass in the 18th and 19th century • Contemporary glass • Glass technology production • Raw materials • Dating and provenance of glass • Restoration and conservation of glass • Glass corrosion and weathering • Archaeometry of glass •........................

Coinciding with GLASSAC congress, a glass exhibition will be a feature of the 2008 Valencia conference: THE LANGUAGE OF THE MATTER. Carlos Muñoz de Pablos: glassworking painter, by one of the best contemporary Spanish glass working master.

More details about the meeting, instructions for contributors and the pre-registration inscription form, can be found on our website www.uv.es/glassac. It will certainly be a memorable event; therefore I would like to invite you to register soon and to submit a short abstract. Remember that deadline for submission of abstracts is October 15th, 2007.

Do not hesitate to contact us if you need any further information.

Welcoming you to the Valencia GLASSAC-08 conference and exhibition,

Sincerely yours,
